Marietta Chapter 5

“This weekend”, “two months from now”, what’s the difference? There are so many things I want to type about that I’ve come full circle, multiple times, and don’t want to say much of anything. College sucks. The US sucks. Life sucks. I wish I was born in Finland.

I tried my hand at a chapter of Marietta-hime no Konrei (Title localized to Princess Marietta’s Wedding), which is an adorable little piece that is somewhat easier than Spear Hero to work on at the moment. Not that Spear Hero is all that difficult comparatively, but that’s the next paragraph. Princess Marietta is an adult novel hailing from Syosetsu’s “Moonlight” section, formerly teased by Solistia. Now, Spear Hero. I have more chapters mostly done, but this damn blasted Naofumi. Oh. My. Buddha. So far, things I have tried translating have been nice and standard in terms of the Japanese used, and I can use my knowledge from one semester of Japanese and a quick few days of study with Tae Kim’s guide to get me through most of each chapter. BUT THEN. This friggin NAOFUMI. Drops colloquial vowel-consonant slurs and I end up with five or six sentences throughout the chapter that I can’t put to a dictionary. I’m sure there’s a method to reverse the simplification and find these words, but I haven’t figured it out yet and it’s frustrating enough to drive me off the computer for a few hours or days until I forget I started this blog.

tl:dr – this entirely too long break was 70% Naofumi’s fault.
